The Australian Paliochora Kythera
Archaeological Survey
A small team of five conducted a brief season from
July 4 until 18. The aim of this year’s season was to advance the study of the
material collected during the four field seasons of the project. Considerable
progress was made in the archaeological drawing of the pottery sherds datable
to the Archaic through to the Classical period. Furthermore, the Geographical
Information Systems (GIS) framework of the project was updated and enhanced.
Particular attention was paid to the documentation of find densities of
archaeological material per period throughout the examined region, as well as
that of the mediaeval and early modern churches within the study area. Work on
the final documentation of the modern cemeteries was also greatly advanced.
